  13. Imprimis,   meaning "in the first place,"  is a free monthly
  14. publication   of  Hillsdale  College  (circulation   435,000
  15. worldwide).  Hillsdale College is a liberal arts institution
  16. known for its defense of free market principles and  Western
  17. culture  and  its nearly 150-year refusal to accept  federal
  18. funds.   Imprimis  publishes  lectures  by  such  well-known
  19. figures  as  Ronald Reagan,  Jeane Kirkpatrick,  Tom  Wolfe,
  20. Charlton  Heston,  and many more.

  30. Preview:  The 19th annual Ludwig von Mises Lecture Series at
  31. Hillsdale  College was held in the spring of 1992,  just  as
  32. the  issue of free trade was again becoming a headline issue
  33. in American politics.  The benefits of a free global economy
  34. are  egalitarian;  it is true that "a rising tide lifts  all
  35. boats." Free trade is not, according to the old mercantilist
  36. thinking,   some  zero sum game in which one nation  or  one
  37. individual  wins  at the expense of another.   It  offers  a
  38. higher  standard of living for all,   dramatically  improved
  39. goods and services,  and an international division of  labor
  40. that  makes  such  goods  and services for  the  first  time
  41. affordable even for the poor, while creating millions of new
  42. jobs around the world.
